Despite not having much time to read, I’ve been hoping to save up my SwagBucks for a Kindle. I had heard about the Kindle Wi-Fi, 6″ – includes Special Offers & Sponsored Screensavers model when it was introduced. I added it to the considerations on my mental wish list of e-readers, but I haven’t thought much about it since.
The idea is that you can save $25 on the purchase price (or $50 on the Kindle 3G, Free 3G + Wi-Fi 6″ – includes Special Offers & Sponsored Screensavers) for receiving special offers and screensavers when you’re not reading. I figured I could just ignore them to save a little money. But the truth is that a Kindle full of coupons might just be a deal-hunter’s dream – especially if it provides rare Amazon coupon codes!
Jenesa, a loyal B2B reader, has been enjoying her Kindle with Special Offers model since Mother’s Day. She emailed me to share:
If you are in the market for an e-Reader, I HIGHLY recommend Amazon’s Kindle with Special Offers! (The offers only display when the unit is off, so they’re non-intrusive.) If you aren’t already an Amazon junkie like me, you soon will be!
The offers change every 3 to 4 days on the Kindle, but once you request an offer you have 4-6 weeks to redeem it. Some of the offers I’ve used: $10 for a $20 Amazon gift card, $5 off $10+ Amazon purchase, $10 off $20+ Kindle accessories (got my Kindle cover!), $1 eBooks, $5 MP3 album at Amazon, $10 off $25+ of select Blu-Rays, and on and on.
The best one appeared yesterday: 50% off selected Back to School Groceries. Most of the selected items also had a 10% off code you could stack, making the sale 60% off Amazon’s prices, which are fairly competitive. Some things aren’t as cheap as using B2B’s match-ups but there were several great items of coupon rarity. Like Annie’s fruit snacks for $1.50/box, shipped! (We’re Amazon Prime members, thanks to Amazon Mom!)
Not to mention a TON of free eBooks available, with selections changing every week. And if you’ve collected SwagBucks and redeemed them for Amazon e-cards, you might already have free money to spend at Amazon!
Amazon also recently announced:
Later in 2011, customers will be able to check out a Kindle book from their local library and start reading on any Kindle or free Kindle reading app.
Lend eligible Kindle books to other Kindle or Kindle app users. Each eligible book can be lent once for a period of 14 days.
While I’ve been wanting an e-reader all along, I now find myself wanting a chance at some of those great Amazon discounts!
If you own an e-reader of any kind, feel free to share your reviews/comments/thoughts below!

I have only had my Kindle for about 3 weeks and already love it! I would advise getting the 3G Kindle with Special Offers as this will allow you to use it anywhere you can use your cell phone. You will want to take your Kindle with you everywhere!

The 3G perk means that you can download new books anywhere?

I LOVE my Kindle!! I have the SO one and I am so thankful for my hubby, who bought it for me. All I wanted for Mother’s day was the last two Twilight books, but he got me this instead. ๐ I couldn’t be happier. I have read almost 70 books since I got it. I can’t put it down. I am always picking up Amazon cards from the stores when I’m out, that way when my one click finger gets jumpy, my credit card doesn’t suffer. I highly reccomend the Kindle.

I also love my Kindle! I have had it for almost 2 years now and it’s by far the best gift I’ve ever gotten! Books are super cheap and they let you sample the book first by sending you the first chapter or two to read and if you like it you can purchase and if not, you can delete it =) It’s definately worth the money if you’re a reader!!

I’ve been debating between a Nook Color and a Kindle. Can you download apps with the kindle? Or is a solely a reader? I know the Nook Color allows you to install apps, and I really want to use my digital shopping list on it when I’m out and about (right now I use my Android phone for that).

I’ve been wanting the 3G with offers for about a month now. But after reading Total Money Makeover, I was determined to get that Kindle without it making a dent in my normal monthly income. I’ve saved up over $50 in Amazon gift codes from being a member of a weekly message board with Starbucks, and sold a lot of little things around my house on Ebay and as of this Friday, will have all the money I need for that Kindle! Yay! I can’t wait till it gets here!

Oooh! I’m excited for you! And I love the way that you saved REWARDS and sold what you had to get it. A great lesson in delayed gratification – and I bet you’ll appreciate it all the more!
