Do you have any candy sitting in your house today? I know WE do!
I like to sort through my kids’ Halloween candy and nab all the good “ingredients” – M&Ms are great in chocolate chip cookies (and for decorating Christmas cookies) and most chocolate-based candy bars are DELICIOUS when chopped and added to brownie batter before baking. Other candies (Smarties, Nerds, Runts) can make great decorations for gingerbread (or graham cracker) houses or frosted sugar cookies. Don’t forget to be creative with your kids’ candy stash!
Allie Pleiter, one of my favorite authors, recommends this recipe after Halloween each year. It’s a great way to use up some of that surplus Halloween candy that has gathered in your house. Plus it involves chocolate. Who am I to disagree with such excellent logic?
By the way, if you need a good read while you’re devouring this, my all-time favorite Allie Pleiter book is The Perfect Blend (I smiled the whole way through!).

Another good way to use up some of that Halloween candy is to put it in an ice cream pie.
Ingredients:
1 graham cracker crust
1/2 of a carton of vanilla ice cream
Any candybar of your choice chopped up. (you can use as much or as little as you want of the candy bar)
Directions:
Soften ice cream. mix candybar into soften ice cream. Spoon into graham cracker crust. Cover with lid. Place in freezer until ice cream is solid. Take out, slice, eat and enjoy!!

You must have young kids! My 8-year-old asks every day when she comes home from school if I ate any of her candy! Snicker salad is really good…I’ve had it before.
