Meijer mPerks Program Changes: What’s new for 2023

This post may contain affiliate links. Read my full disclosure policy.

Meijer mPerks newThe Meijer mPerks digital rewards program has been around for quite a few years. It is a great, free way to earn rewards and savings as a Meijer shopper – and I highly recommend it! Meijer rolled out some major changes in the program in January 2023 that you will want to note.

Meijer mPerks: What has changed?

Meijer mPerks Points
Previously, you would earn $2 off your next order every time you spent $100 at the register. Now, you will earn 10 points per dollar spent (or 1,000 points for every prescription filled at the Meijer Pharmacy). The shift to points is a common theme in many rewards programs; it distances your earnings from a monetary value, which can create a little customer confusion.

Meijer new mPerks program

Rewards Value Changes
This is perhaps the most disappointing change, though it is understandable in the current market. While we used to earn $2 back on every $100 spent, you can now redeem 1,000 points for $1 off your next order. Basically, you’ll have to spend $100 to get $1 back now, reducing your reward value by half of what it was previously. You can also opt for 10¢ off a gallon of gas for 1,500 points (Tip: you would need to fill your tank with at least 15 gallons of gas to make this worth as much as a dollar amount off your next order reward. The maximum fill-up allowed is 30 gallons).

90 Day Expiration on Points
Previously, you could track your progress and generally had a 30-day time limit to earn any rewards. You can now accumulate points, but you will have to remember to redeem them by selecting a reward ($ off your next order, $0.10 off per gallon of gas, etc) within 90 days. You will not automatically receive rewards anymore. Meijer will give you a reminder once points are close to expiration, but there is a chance you could lose quite a few points if you don’t redeem them every few months. Once you redeem points toward a reward, you’ll have 45 days to use it at the Meijer register or gas pump.

Meijer mPerks: What has stayed the same?

Meijer mPerksAccessibility
You can still access your Meijer mPerks account through the Meijer app or online.

Coupon Savings
You can still clip digital coupons in your mPerks account. Some of these may be personalized according to your shopping habits; they can also vary by region or store location.

Opportunities to Earn
In addition to earning through your in-store purchases, you can earn mPerks points through Meijer Shop & Scan and Meijer Home Delivery services.

Exclusions
You will not earn Meijer mPerks points on: Alcohol, Tobacco, Pseudoephedrine/Ephedra Products, Gift & Entertainment Cards, Prepaid Phones & Airtime Cards, Lottery, Postage, Park & Entertainment Tickets, Prepaid Debit Cards & Reload Packs, In-Store Businesses, Licenses, Taxes, Previous Purchases, SIMPLR™ Protection Plans, Fuel, Bottle Deposits, Instacart Orders, Door Dash Orders, and Meijer Home Delivery & Pickup Fees.

My personal opinion:
While these changes may not make the program quite as rewarding as it once was for customers, I’m still thankful for any additional savings I can get on necessary grocery spending. All of the parts of the rewards program are still intact, with a few small changes. I’ll take what I can get. Thanks, Meijer!

I’m a little confused but we’ll see how it goes! Are you still sending out coupons?

I’m confused, do we still get ten cents off per gallon on fuel?

My vehicle doesn’t hold 15 gallons of gas…it is always less. This is disappointing. Changes are not always good. I may have to consider options after being an extremely loyal customer for over 30 years.

Not very user friendly if you have to keep track of points. They seem to be cutting back on everything. They have put in more self checkouts, but it takes a long time to get thru when there are large orders going thru instead of 12 or 20 items as before. Also, the other day only 5 of 6 stations were working and only 2 other checkouts with clerks were available.

The prescription program still sounds good…5 prescriptions =$5.00 (5000 points). I think that’s similar to what it was before.

Everything changes, so we will just have to adapt.
Look at the sales ad format, it went for $10 for 11 to $7 for 7 and now $5 off 5 starting on Sunday!
I am glad that we were able to stock-up while we could.
A HUGE THANK YOU to JOLYN and the rest of B to B crew for the FANTASTIC JOB!!!

I actually like the new program. There are extra rewards like spend $50 on baby and get 10000 points or spend $30 on frozen food get points. I get way more points now than I did with the old system just buying the same stuff. I guess it helps I have two babies in diapers 🙂

I also have earn 5000 points for spending $50 on alcohol.
