Kroger recently announced new safety measures in their stores to protect customers and associates in a press release dated Monday, April 6, 2020. Some of these actions may already be in affect and some are rolling out in coming days.
Remember that you can still use Kroger store pickup, delivery through Instacart and Ship programs to get groceries from Kroger without entering the store.
- New store capacity limits:
Kroger is now allowing 1 person per 120 square feet of store space in the store. Kroger can monitor the number of customers using QueVision technology, which already provides a count of the customers entering and exiting stores.) - One-way aisles
Kroger has started to test one-way aisles in select markets to determine if it improves social distancing. You may see them as soon as April 7 in some Michigan stores. - Protective masks and gloves for associates
Kroger has ordered these and supplies are starting to arrive. All locations are expected to have them by the end of the week. - No fees for prescription delivery by mail
Kroger is temporarily waiving fees for prescription delivery via mail or courier. - Reusable shopping bags allowed
Unlike other stores which have discouraged the use of reusable bags, Kroger will continue to allow them (as long as a state ordinance doesn’t prohibit it). Kroger encourages its customers to frequently clean and wipe reusable shopping bags to help maintain a safe shopping environment. Note that many readers are saying their Kroger location is not allowing reusable bags. - Plexiglass partitions, floor decals and reminders
Kroger has already added plexiglass partitions at checkout, educational floor decals and a healthy habits message over the in-store radio to encourage customers to practice good hygiene and spatial awareness. - Employee health
Kroger is asking associates to closely monitor own their health and take their temperature at home before arriving at work. - Contact-free payment
Kroger is continuing to expand pickup and delivery services and contactless payment solutions like Kroger Pay.
