Today (April 4, 2020), Meijer announced additional steps that they are taking to protect both shoppers and team members in their stores. You’ll want to note the limit on shoppers per trip (as well as the total number of customers allowed in the store) and the temporary end of the weekly sales ads.
I’m thankful for all that Meijer is doing to keep us as safe as possible while shopping. Remember that there are also great options for Meijer pick up and delivery as well, along with the Shop & Scan program.
Meijer has released new steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Asking customers to limit the number of shoppers per trip, while understanding that some customers may need additional assistance.
- Monitoring the number of customers in the store (managing the number of shoppers to support proper social distancing)
- Temporarily suspending the weekly sales ad beginning April 12 (Meijer had previously reduced it to a 4 page ad).
- Conducting health screenings and temperature checks of each team member before they begin each shift.
- Installing protective plexiglass shields at all check lanes and pharmacies in its 248 locations.
- Adding signage and broadcast announcements inside the store about proper social distancing.
Safety measures Meijer has previously implemented:
- Suspended the use of re-usable bags by customers in its stores (unless used for the Meijer Shop & Scan program).
- Discontinued bottle returns at Michigan locations.
- Stopped the acceptance of product returns at all our Customer Service Desks until April 16, including recalls, exchanges and deposit refunds. Extended the eligible return policy to 120 days for all items.
- Temporarily removed Sandy the Pony from the front end of its stores.
- Placed decals on the floor 6 feet apart in lines for check lanes, pharmacy and service desk counters.
- Suggested customers use the length of their shopping carts to gauge appropriate distance from others where there aren’t decals on the floor.
- Reduced shopping hours to support deeper cleaning overnight and re-stocking efficiency.
- Dedicated shopping hours for senior citizens, customers with chronic health conditions and essential service workers.
- Encouraged the “express pay” option through the Meijer pharmacy enhanced text messaging program, which provides a contactless experience when picking up most prescriptions.

How do you control social distancing outside the store as people wait in line to get into the store? It seems like this will be a problem?
Donna says
If they are limiting the number of people in the store like the Target on Gratiot and Quinn Rd. is, there is a greeter standing by the entrance keeping track of how many people are in the store and there are “X”s on the pavement outside the door that are six feet apart if there are people waiting to go into the store.

With no weekly sales ad, does that mean there are no weekly sales? …everything is MSRP.
Jolyn says
There should still be in store or unadvertised sales. I hope.
Bonnie says
There will be sale items. They will be marked on the shelves and in the app/website. Once the sale prices are loaded on Sunday, you can search to find the price that week.
EDWARD ALLEN ADAMIC says
The Lapeer store had a limit of 2 gallons of milk. My question is why? As a dairy farmer i am going to call anyone out on the excuses because i KNOW there is an over abundance if milk on the market, so much , that the price is depressed. Limit on milk has no good excuse.
Jenny says
With no ads, does anyone knows if this mean everything will be full priced from now on? At a time many are hurting financially?
I messaged Meijer on fb but they haven’t replied and have ignored others asking this question.
Jamie powers says
There will still be sales and sale signs, just not sending out ads, so they are not enticing people to be out in public if it is not necessary
Kristen says
Maybe they should also talk to their employees about proper social distancing. I was there today and multiple employees were not practicing social distancing by coming so close to me I could have touched them. They are at the highest risk at transmitting this disease since they are working through all of this. It’s frustrating enough that other customers aren’t practicing it, but the employees? Extremely infuriating.
Kim Willis says
First actually enforce the rules. Second close off the non essential areas of the store, like clothing, shoes, toys, electronics, and garden shop. If small retailers can’t sell these as essential it’s not fair for you to do it.
Diane Sacker says
Thank you, though please have Lysol wipes and spray toilet paper on senior time. Very important we have been forgotten. An hour is hard to walk please add an additional half hour. Thank you and please take care of your workers they deserve HAZARD PAY. For once in your life Don’t be your cheep self show that you appreciate your workers. Remember they could walk out.
Lisa McWhinnie says
I have been trying to go onto your site to use curb side pick up but it is continually down. Any options?
Jolyn says
I’ve had luck trying throughout the day, but it does take some persistence!
Wendy says
Did Meijer change it’s plan and decided not to have the $10 when you spend $50. I no longer see it on your site.
Diane says
My son works at a Walmart there were plenty of people saying thank you for just doing his job. Several people wanted to tip him for doing his job.
