Please make sure you’re aware of potentially tricky drugstore coupon policies before you shop (each store has different restrictions). I used the B1G1 free coupon for Clean ‘n Clear Body Wash today at Walgreens for the B1G1 free deal. At first the coupon did not work, but then the cashier made it go through (can’t remember how). I did not encourage her or say anything for that matter. Just wondering if it was wrong to do that? Can you use B1G1 free coupon with a B1G1 store deal?
(I ended up with 2 free body washes.)
Gaynor says
You’re getting one free from the store
and one free from the manufacturer
You’re not wrong!

I don’t understand.. why use a B1G1 coupon if the store already has a B1G1 deal? wouldn’t it be better to save the coupon?? (still learning the tricks of the trade) have a great day!!
Jolyn says
It works like this:
Buy 2 Candy Bars @ $0.99 = $1.98
Store Sale Buy 1 Get 1 Free = (-$0.99)
Coupon Buy 1 Get 1 Free = (-$0.99)
You get both for free!
Without using the coupon you’d pay $0.49 per candy bar. While the store sale provides a savings, the coupon value comes from the manufacturer (the store will be reimbursed for the full value) and both discounts can be legally combined so that you don’t have to pay anything for both items. This only works at area drugstores, since it’s allowed in their policy (not at area grocery stores).
Jennifer says
What about when a drug store has a B1G1 free sale and you have manufacture coupons. Can you use 2 coupons?
Kristen says
You can’t use 2 b1g1 coupons on the same 2 items…BUT, you can use 2 coupons on 4 b1g1 items…sometimes it makes it like buying 1 and getting 3 free, depending on the price of the item.
Jennifer says
Thank you for clearing that up for me (about the B1G1 body wash). I enjoy guilt-free shopping! I’m still getting used to this too! Thanks again. I’ve tried the manufacture coupons with B1G1 free sales at Meijer and they do not allow it. Other places may allow it???
Jolyn says
Grocery stores in our area are tricky with B1G1 sales. Drugstores have more lenient policies.

Rite aid also has the 32 oz rtf similac on sale for $4.99 use coupon from 4/3 s $5/1 also makes it free.

Just wanted to update anyone who is interested . . . . CVS multipacks of toothpaste are not 2.24. They are closer to 6.00 or 7.00 Also, I was at Rite-aid and the B1G1 Free for candy bars came to .44 each. The guy took my coupon and put .44 cents on the amount, so they weren’t free, but close enough. Just trying to help out others 🙂
FrugalBehind says
That’s when you refer to their corporate coupon policy, which clearly states:
“We accept a Buy One, Get One Free Coupon with an item that is in our flyer as Buy One, Get One Free, meaning both items are free. The cash register will compute any sales tax due, which varies by state law. “
Nancy says
I was at Rite Aide today and got the candy and breath right. He told me the amount that I owed and I said the only thing I pay is tax right. He said the tax was $0.44 less. I asked why he said it was because of the candy. I then told him the candy was buy one get one and I gave you a q for b1g1. He then adjusted the bill so I didn’t pay anything for the candy.
FrugalBehind says
It was acutally pointed out to me that the B1G1 coupon had an $0.85 limit, so when I got to the store and explained to the cashier I had a B1G1 coupon on top of their B1G1 sale, I did add I still owed them money because of the limit. (Gotta play fair, right?)
The Hershey bars rang up as $0.88 regular price though – so I got my 2 bars for 3 pennies :).
jenny says
Ditto with Anna, CVS Colgate Toothpaste Multipacks are NOT $2.24, it’s at least double that price, so it’s not free. It makes it an expensive way to get toothpaste actually, since toothpaste is usually free with the right coupons (I have a whole closet full of tubes)
Erin says
I have a question: is it true that at non-food items at drugstores (for instance the Tylenol Precise patches) you have to still pay tax even if the item seems it will be “free?” i am wondering because I got the Tylenol precise patches (for my aching pregnant back) and I still had to pay $0.40 or something on the tax even though they were on sale for $7.99 and then 2 coupons, one for -$5.00 and one for -$3.00. Thanks!!
FrugalBehind says
I think this is true most places if not all – although state sales taxes and their governing laws obviously may differ by state.
Think of it this way – an item was sold for $7.99, so sales tax is due on that. It doesn’t really matter HOW you paid for the item, cash, plastic, or paper :).

Was really bumbed last night; colgate was not crossed off before I left yesterday and I bought the multipacks; I left my sheet in the car I new something was wrong but didn’t know until I got back into the car. Luckily I had enough extra care bucks to pay for it but what a waste of my bucks. I atleast only had to pay 0.21 out of pocket.

Does any one know if you can use a coupon from the Walgreens flyer (a Walgreens coupon) with a manufacturer coupon? This week at Walgreens there was a coupon for $4 off Aleve and I have a $1 manufacturer coupon. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
FrugalBehind says
Yup. Says so right in their coupon policy:
“When purchasing a single item, Walgreens accepts one manufacturer coupon and applicable Walgreens coupon(s) for the purchase of a single item, unless prohibited by either coupon offer.”
Great stacking opportunities!
karry says
does anyone know CVSs coupon policy? tried looking on their website but couldn’t find anything. how many identical coupons can you use per transaction??
FrugalBehind says
As you found out, CVS doesn’t really have a public coupon policy. Word on the Web is there are no limits on the use of identical coupons – but individual stores may limit quantities at their discretion.
Check with your store if you want to be absolutely sure – especially if you are thinking of very large numbers of coupons :).
