The first Michigan Kroger Marketplace location opens to the public at 7 a.m. on February 23, 2014. You’ll find it on the northwest corner of 23 Mile and Hayes in Shelby Township (4945 23 Mile Rd). If you’re familiar with the area, it was built right next to the Kroger gas station.
I was excited to get a blogger’s tour of the new store today – and I wanted to share a sneak peek with you before the doors open! I took so many pictures they didn’t fit all in one post – so take a look at my Kroger Marketplace photo slideshow…

Kroger Marketplace Specialty Departments
Murray’s Cheese Shop
Murray’s Cheese is a well-respected cheese store in New York. At the new Kroger Marketplace customers can choose from more than 200 handpicked specialty cheeses. Kroger staffs each location with a cheesemaster and cheese associates who have received extensive cheese service training from Murray’s. They are cheese experts who can recommend cheeses, food/wine pairings and more. Murray’s philosophy is taste before you buy so don’t be afraid to ask for a sample!
Fresh Sushi, Hot Soup and Olive Island
In the Bakery department, use the state-of-the-art, user-friendly bread slicer to custom-slice fresh, Artisan bread made daily.
Shop more than 120+ organic fruit and vegetable choices – and don’t miss the rhubarb growing in the middle of the produce department!
The largest natural foods department I’ve seen in a Kroger store! It offers a full line of Organic and Natural Simple Truth items, with gluten-free selections clearly marked on the tag. Take a look at the natural bulk food station for snacks, quinoa, flax seed, nuts and more – and grind your own fresh nut butters. You can also buy organic honey by the pound!
You’ll find everything from baby basics in addition to baby food, formula, and diapers, such as baby apparel, bibs, cribs, playards, car seats, strollers, high chairs, baby swings and more. Baby items are sold at budget-friendly prices and include brands such as Graco.
Find kitchen essentials including utensils, dinnerware, small appliances, glassware and cookware. You’ll recognize brands like Cuisinart, KitchenAid, Pyrex, Dyson and Keurig.
Shop men’s, women’s, and children’s apparel and shoes (and fitting rooms!) along with scarves, jewelry and accessories. I was happy to find 70% off clearance items as well! Great style from familiar brands, including Champion, Signature by Levi Strauss & Co., Gloria Vanderbilt, Fila, Carhartt, Sketchers and more.
Fred Meyer Jewelers
Located inside the Shelby Twp. Kroger Marketplace, Fred Meyer Jewelers offers an extensive variety of fine jewelry, including everything from diamond bridal and engagement jewelry to brand name watches. Get your jewelry repaired, ring cleaned and watch battery changed, too – all while earning Kroger fuel rewards on your purchase.
Enjoy your favorite beverage while you shop – or relax in the sitting area (and enjoy complimentary WiFi).
Disclosure: Kroger invited some bloggers, including myself, to tour and review the new Kroger Marketplace. I was provided with a Kroger gift card and a swag bag from both Fred Meyer Jewelers and Murray’s Cheese as thanks for my post and participation.
