VG’s SHOPPING TIPS

Did you know? VG’s offers a $0.05 reusable bag credit per bag you bring. You may have to remind your cashier, however, as the credit is not automatic.

You’ll find printable Spartan coupons at the Turn to Spartan website. You’ll need to register first. Coupons are limited to 1 per family and will NOT double, but they could stretch your savings even further.

Save your receipts – as part of VG’s Community Share Program, they can benefit non-profit groups in Michigan. You don’t need to sign up; simply find a group collecting receipts and turn yours in to them. Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica (45160 Van Dyke at Hall Rd) collects VG’s receipts to purchase socks for the homeless. You can leave your receipts at the front desk there if you can’t find another participating group.

Visit the Meat Department and hunt for the yellow rectangular markdown tags. VG’s routinely offers 50% off soon-to-expire meat; most packages are good cuts of meat with no sign of aging and won’t expire for 2 more days, which allows plenty of time for cooking or freezing.

Shopping with Kids? Stop by the customer service desk and sign them up for the Zoo Crew Kids’ Club. They’ll receive special treats, including a cookie from the bakery when they visit!

There is also another Pillsbury Sweet Moments $1/1 coupon available at target.com — and that one WILL double.

2 Kristin August 8, 2010 at 5:51 PM

Love it… just went here on Friday for the first time and my mom and I did SO well. Got SO much for $80 out of pocket. Yah! Thanks Jolyn for all your hard work on the match-ups, it seriously makes my job SO much easier.

3 Melanie August 9, 2010 at 9:49 AM

Last time VG’s did the BOGO on Cap ‘n Crunch, I used the $1/2 and it doubled without a problem. I ALWAYS use the self check out and have not had any issues (Howell store) Hope it works for all of you! I think it ended up being 35 cents per box when I did it! GREAT deal =)

4 KRebekah August 9, 2010 at 10:56 AM

I’m not seeing the Nabisco .75/2 coupon from 8/8 SS. Am I missing something? I got the Detroit Free Press.

5 Jolyn August 9, 2010 at 11:02 AM

It’s $0.75/2 Any Nabisco Cookies or Crackers in the August 8 SmartSource. The Free Press included it in the very center of the insert, with coupons for Trident gum and candy. Hope that helps!

6 Carrie August 10, 2010 at 9:48 AM

There’s a $1/2 coupon for Nabisco multi-pack snacks in at coupons.com. Could this be used with this promotion?

7 Jolyn August 10, 2010 at 1:14 PM

Yes, and that coupon is linked above in the matchup. :)

Sunday when I had the wonderful experience of VG”G (head cashier gave the pop sale eventhough it ended Saturday (part of a 3 day sale :-( ) :-) , I did not ask for it….when she came to void the sale out she said let’s just do it!! I did talk to her about couponing. She did verify that as of right now..it is indefinite the double to a $1.00. I told her that this promo is bringing people to their store that have never shopped there before. I complimented her on how nice the cashiers have been. She did tell me that some couponers have been very mean….like when the DO NOT DOUBLE coupon does not double. It is their policy. I told her that most stores double them…the coupon is coded so it does (5). It is their policy and we know it and should respect it. HOWEVER….the u scan can’t read the DO NOT DOUBLE..I believe it will double. Going to the uscan will not get a cashier in trouble…or make an uneasy situation. It seems to me that the cashiers do know their store policies unlike many other stores. I will shop VG’s again. It was clean and the people were so so nice…like I said before…they must take their HAPPY pills.

9 Amber August 9, 2010 at 12:32 PM

I also shopped at VG’s for the first time on Saturday (Brighton store) and had a WONDERFUL experience. I was brought there by their double dollar coupon deal, but loved it soooo much. I asked the cashier if she thought Ann Arbor would ever get a VG’s and she didn’t sound optimisitic. I did uscan and the cashier was so helpful- she had to keep coming over to approve the coupons (because I rolled several of the $10 coupons deals). I used the last $10 to get produce and cheese since I don’t live nearby and was unsure of when I would be back in. Now that they are extending the coupon deal, I’m already planning my return trip. I will also be emailed the store to let them know how much I loved my visit!

10 Amy August 9, 2010 at 4:30 PM

The Stouffer’s Corner Bistro Toasted Sub sandwiches ARE included in the sale- hooray! Love the free offers!
I could not find the Scotch Brite scour pads however. There were several clipped $1 coupons laying by the Scotch Brite section so I don’t think that I was the only one who could not find them.
THANK YOU Jolyn!!!!!! We are new to couponing and I am now addicted- truly amazing!

11 Mike August 9, 2010 at 6:19 PM

Stopped by VG’s Sterling Hts yesterday afternoon. Found $40 cash lying on the floor the second I walked in. Waited there for 10 mins but nobody came in to claim it so I kept it for myself. Feel bad for the poor person who lost it. I would’ve gave it to one of the employees but of course they would’ve kept it for themselves. Got a great deal but few of my coupons didn’t scan and a few didn’t double but my cashier was a manager and was able to override the computer system. Sometimes if it’s a non manager cashier they have to call a manager to fix the problem with the coupon that doesn’t scam. Everytime I go there one or more of my coupons don’t scan right.

12 Cathy August 9, 2010 at 8:34 PM

The coupon I have for yoplait delights in 7/25 SS is for .50 not $1.00. Was there SS inserts that Sunday that I missed?

13 Jolyn August 9, 2010 at 9:05 PM

There were other Yoplait Delights coupons for $0.50/1 in other inserts, but since the $1.00/1 makes for the best deal, it was the one I listed.

14 Cathy August 9, 2010 at 10:22 PM

I’ve looked all through the 7/25 SS insert and can’t find the $1.00 one.
Which paper was the it in? I get the Detroit News. Wish I could find it. My boys LOVE that stuff.

15 robin August 11, 2010 at 6:27 PM

In shelby twp area and it is .50/1 in my inserts also.

16 Lindsey August 10, 2010 at 9:53 AM

Would the other $1/1 stouffer’s coupons you listed on the Meijer Match-ups give you free Stouffer’s at VG’s?

17 Jolyn August 10, 2010 at 1:12 PM

Yes! I missed that! I’ll add the link!

18 Michelle August 10, 2010 at 10:25 AM

Couldn’t you also use the coupon from the Stouffer’s website for the Red Box meals?

19 Colleen August 11, 2010 at 12:03 PM

VG’s in Brighton & Howell are wonderful. Not just there coupon policy, but the great customer service as well. I typically shop at Howell’s location, but since the Brighton store now doubles, I go there on my lunch break. I make sure I go out of my way to thank them for their help, since they are patient with me and all my coupons. I’m sure they get their fair share of “nasty couponers”, so I don’t want to make their job any worse than it has to be. I’ve never received an attitude problem from the staff.

20 robin August 11, 2010 at 6:35 PM

The sunny d’s at my store had close expiration dates, and my family don’t drink it very quickly so it didn’t seem like a very good deal. Makes me wonder if its on sale to push it out the door before it expires.

21 Tammy August 12, 2010 at 10:48 AM

I noticed the same thing with the Budding Meat. When I asked the meat person if they had any more in the back they didnt all had sell by dates of Aug 16.

22 Stacey August 13, 2010 at 11:06 PM

If you still have your July All You magazine, there was a coupon for $1/1 Chips Ahoy Reese’s or Heath. Those varieties are on sale for $2.50, so only $0.50 after coupon.

23 Kim August 14, 2010 at 4:59 PM

Went to Sterling Heights today for the coffee creamer. All went well at the U-scan until the last (4th) of my .75 q’s. The machine beeped and said something about max 3 limit reached. The cashier said there is a limit of 3 idententical q’s per transaction. Didn’t know that, but she manually fixed it for me. just fyi for future.
